Getting a job after completing your degree is not only a dream of every graduate but a need as well. Unfortunately, most of the graduates don’t know about suitable organizations or institutes relevant to their qualifications. Similarly, many of them don’t have the knowledge and skills to write a resume and cover letters. If somehow, they master these skills, still they don’t know how to approach Human Resource managers to convince them to be invited for interviews and finally offered a job. So, here I am going to discuss a very effective technique to approach HR managers, which is dropping your resume and cover letter In-person to HR managers.

An in-person Resume and cover letter drop is quite a unique and good idea to show your passion for the job. To validate the importance of in-person Resume and cover drop, I personally gone through this exercise. It’s a great way to know more about organizations, industries, institutes working in your area and are potential employers of your skills and expertise. Prior to this activity, I was not aware of most of the instructions in my native city Sialkot which can offer me a good position. For example, I come to know about the University of Management and Technology, Sialkot campus, University of Sialkot, Government College University for Women, Sialkot, Punjab Group of Colleges, Sialkot Medical Colleges, Islam Medical College, etc. These institutions were not in my radar before that activity. Moreover, I got a chance to meet many friends and familiar people who are already working in these organizations.

However, dropping my resume and cover letter to HR managers was not that easy, it came with some challenges. The very first challenge was knowing about the location of a particular organization or institute. For this, I took the help of Google map and also talked with my friends who know more about Sialkot city. So, it’s a good idea to know about the location of an organization beforehand, so that you can save much of your time.

The second challenge was to enter into that particular organization. Most of the time, gatekeepers didn’t allow me to get into the main gate. To overcome this problem, I searched about any friends or friends of friends working in that organization and asked him to talk with the security guard and let me in. Hence, you should search for any close friend or any other family person working in that organization you are going to drop your resume or cover letter.

The third challenge was knowing about the HR Manager's name, office location, and taking time to meet him. To tackle this issue, I first of all went to the reception desk, ask him about the name and office of the HR Manager. When I reached there I greeted the HR manager officer clerk, talked with him in a friendly way, and requested him to allow me to meet with the HR manager. I observed that this technique helped me a lot and he allowed me to enter the office.

It was overall, a good experience to drop my resume in-person to these organizations. However, in the future, I would like to know and search for my friends or close relatives working in a particular organization I am going to visit. I would also love to know more about the organizational setup and about the HR manager.

Conclusively, I can say that dropping your resume and cover letter to an organization is a good idea. It shows your passion and motivation about the position you are gonna apply. But keep in mind that there are challenges too. You should be patient and resilient to face these challenges and should decide strategies to overcome these issues.
